Meet the great minds behind the apparel startup Erickniceapparel.com, Founder/Co-owner Erick Jordan and Co-owner Michael Alden. Meeting in prison these entrepreneurs immediately recognized that their core values not only aligned but saw that their differences and ambitions presented an opportunity to pool together and create something beyond themselves. Above all else their vision/mission has given them an opportunity to give back to the culture and community that shaped them.
PrisonBaes: “Why did you want to start an apparel brand?”
Erick: “I get a lot of compliments on the style of my threads; I enjoy the compliments that I get for the way that I dress. I want to make it possible for others to feel that same sense of pride, for them to feel that same confidence.”
PB: “Describe your brand in two sentences.”
E: “We want people to feel confident that they are wearing the hottest, hippest, most stylistic clothing possible. After they have made their purchase, we want them to reflect on their experience as being a fun, cool, and exciting!”
PB: “Who is your ideal customer?”
E: “We are targeting the people from 17 to 80, familiar with the Hip-Hop culture, or looking to expand their horizons and broaden their outlook on life.”
PB: “How are you marketing your business?”
E: “We currently are spreading the word by mouth, flyers and our website (ericknicesapparel.com). We are also currently creating our Facebook and Instagram Page’s”.
PB: “How do you find inspiration for new products?”
E: “We follow the latest trends, seasonality, holidays, animals, slogans, and customer feedback.
PB: “What sets you apart from your competitors?”
E: “All of our designs are hand drawn not Ai generation. We spend a lot of time sourcing and evaluating the materials we choose to use, like the cotton quality, ink quality, and final production.”
PB: “Where do you see your business in five to ten years?”
Michael: “In five years I’d like to see our business thriving, and from the comfort of my living room. Grossing north of 500 shirts and hoodies a month.
E: “We will be a profitable, well oiled, company with employees that treasure the opportunity to work with us.”
PB: “How do you define success?”
M: “I feel that success can be defined on too many levels, but to keep it simple, set your smart goals with action plans for each. Then follow one step of the action plan at a time until completed. Globally speaking, to me, success is achieved when you’re able to focus on helping others reach their goals while you’re able to let someone else oversee the day-to-day operations of your business.”
E: “I define success as not only what I can do for myself but for my community as well.”
