woman, old, aged-1869556.jpgTo start, I came up with the title to this blog because I wasn’t sure how attractive the title “Russell Wilson” would have been. I literally sat here for about 10 minutes watching Gold Rush on Discovery channel trying to think of something eye grabbing. If self sabotage didn’t get your attention, well… thanks for reading anyway lol So, I almost titled this as “Russell Wilson” for a particular reason. Yes, Russell Wilson, the ex Seahawks’ quarterback and later Broncos’ quarterback. I chose his story because not many know of his beginnings before he signed his $87.6 million dollar contract with the Seahawks. When I learned of such, I always found it as a subtle laughing point for more reasons than one.

When Russell Wilson was drafted into the NFL, he had a longtime girlfriend that he brought along with him. His first contract was meager and he had a mediocre salary but his eyes were full of stars. He had a vision for himself and he was willing to start from humble beginnings until he got to his goals. His girlfriend on the other hand.. I’m assuming was star struck being surrounded by such elite athletes and at some point she succumbed to her desires and cheated on Russell with one of his very own TEAMMATES. Scandalous. If I’m not mistaken, the affair lasted a while until what was done in the dark was brought to the light. Russell was heartbroken but kept on working toward his goals. Then BANG! Sunshine cracked through the clouds and Russell Wilson earned himself a $87.6 million dollar contract with the Seattle Seahawks!! Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity. Not long afterward, his heart healed and he took his shot at the vivacious pop singer Ciara. They later married and had children together. Russell Wilson’s ex girlfriend.. who really knows what happened to her? But I’m sure she watches from the sidelines and outskirts REGRETTING her choices to be duplicitous, unfaithful, and under committed… She may have learned a great life lesson but she also sabotaged herself out of an opportunity most women would k i l l for: A man with status, success, who’s ambitions take care of life’s financial woes as he remains devoted to his commitment to her. A real fairytale am I right?

Why did I use this story for this blog? Because time and time again women meet incarcerated men through penpal sites or other means and you never really know where someone’s journey may take them. I have met men inside here who got out and became Real Estate moguls, business owners, franchise owners, stock market gurus, motivational speakers, etc but these men also came across women who could not see these men for their true value and yes… they played games with these men, mishandled these men, took them for granted and even at times.. took advantage of these men for their own self esteem reinforcement until they (the women) found a man who was free and easily accessible for a late night sneaky link. Shameful. Upon their freedom, SOME men took these women back with open arms.. (My opinion on that will have to be saved for another blog) while in other cases.. success is the greatest revenge.

When you’re writing that new penpal you’ve stumbled across, you might be introducing yourself to the next millionaire who has a kind heart and strong mind. Are you willing to sabotage yourself out of your blessing? A short but true story: My own little brother (now 31years old) had his own Russell Wilson moment. He enlisted into the military at the age of 18 and married his highschool girlfriend. He put her and and their eventual daughter into a nice home while he went out on tours to Afghanistan as a Marine. Literally risking his life for the safety of his family. After a few years, by happenstance his laptop dies of low battery and he grabs his wife’s laptop to check his own email and financial accounts. Funny thing is, HER own email account was open and available for his viewing (why log out of your email account on your own laptop am I right?) and it is then that my brother discovered that every time he goes overseas, his wife (now ex wife) was using HIS money to fly men into town to have sex in the home my brother purchased. Of course he was heartbroken but he picked himself up off the ground. Then on one of his tours he injured his back jumping out of a helicopter thus earning himself an honorable discharge (I think to this day he receives $2900 a month for being disabled although he still walks, runs, and jumps just fine after surgery) During divorce proceedings he lost his home to the wife and had to sleep in his car and shower at the gym but he kept picking himself up. Yes, he eventually got an apartment.

Thereafter, since cross fit became one of his fave pastimes he eventually qualified himself for a contract with Adidas for $100,000/year contract. His ex wife began to understand what real struggle was once my brother’s majority income left that household. She eventually ate through her depression and blew up like a house! She’s still looking for love and someone to blame for all her life’s struggles. My brother found himself a very loyal and fit girlfriend who is now his wife as of November 2023. His wife joined the Air Force and he travels to every city she’s stationed to support her. He no longer does cross fit but he makes upwards of $80,000+ a year alone doing the hobbies he loves. In conclusion, self sabotage is often the cause of so much strife and perpetual toxicity in a persons life. I’m not saying that peace of mind is ALL financial but we would be fools if we ignored the fact love does not pay the bills. Nor is love self serving. However, given a persons circumstance, you would never know how much life and love and stability you can have with a person if you self sabotage yourself early on for your own instant gratification.
