So, for starters, I was sent to Clallam Bay closed custody and at the time I was told it was Gladiator School. So, without ever being in prison or knowing anything, I felt I would have to prove myself and automatically felt like I’d have to stab someone, but also with my homeboys/gang being in Oregon, I didn’t know what the politics would be. I found out quickly. Back then the prisons had every gang, and you had your local in city beefs and then you had Tacoma verses Seattle and everybody else was on the cuffs. Most California cats rolled together, and I was alone.
I thought at the time I was going to just go with the crips, but it didn’t happen because they were all beefing and on b.s. I remember the now homie Tank from Hilltop approach me in the chow hall. He said, ” I see you, I know the look, you trying to figure shit out”. I’m like “yeah” he says “where ya from?” I respond, “Blocs Cuz, what’s up” he laughs and says, ” I can’t fuck with you, I only fuck with Tacoma.” I responded, “well you might want to get to know me now cuz I’m gone be here and I am not going know where”. He laughed and walked away. Later I ended up buying some underground cigarettes from one of his guys that went to the hole. The average person wouldn’t have paid, but I went back to Tank to pay because my name and reputation meant everything to me, and this caught some attention.
Anyhow, I realized it ME AGAINST THE WORLD and I’m going to do this time alone and ANYBODY can get it. I ended up running into an Og Cali Cat name Khaki. He pushed up on me to talk and I told him its weird doing time without the homies. Khaki told me “Be grateful your homies aren’t around because you gone have to be your own man and it’ll build your character” That was 20 years ago. I recently spoke to Khaki and thanked him for that advice and let him know I’m still my own man.
But back to my first day at Clallam Bay, I was sent to A pod, and I immediately got approached by some white guys. One guy named Mike told me he’s the shot caller for the whites and our day room is segregated and where we can sit. (I wasn’t feeling, or hearing nothing he was taking bout), I was actually offended. That same guy ended up being takin off the Mainline by the whites because apparently, he made statements against his codefendant. He got stabbed.
Anyhow, I’ll stop there for now but what I want to say is I WISH I KNEW WHEN I WAS FREE WHAT I KNOW NOW. BE YOUR OWN MAN!!!!!
The prison politics are dumb and truthfully, you have a bunch of men who don’t want to see others succeed. Tank saw my push (which I’ll expand on later) and gave me his Presidents position in P.E.A.C.E.
Currently I work with our Non-Profit called Foundation Restore and Prepare. We work with youth and reentry because of guys like me and other incarcerated individuals who know the truth. We want to save our youth.
