So today we are on lockdown as a result of several fights between the Hispanics. Allegedly the 2 Groups are the Sereno’s and the Norteno’s. Before I go further let me say that I have 20 years in and I’m not the guy on the sidelines. I’m always in the loop and I see things in an honest way. So let me go back to my Clallam Bay days. The people running the prisons used to set the fights up between the Hispanics on purpose. Example: 2 guys would get into a fight and go to the hole. Well, the institution would bring those guys out the hole knowing there’s tension, put them all in the same unit and in less than 2 hours it would jump off and they’d lock the whole institution down.
As ridiculous as this may sound, people need to know their prison history. This stuff has been happening since the 70’s in the California prison systems. Only in these systems they use the same tactics to create wars with Blacks and Mexicans and other races. These same tactics have been used in Walla Walla and other prisons. My personal opinion is, when they see us coexisting, they can’t have that or stand it and they can influence violence.
So, a few days ago, someone was brought back to our institution who previously had a fight with another inmate. Someone made a decision to bring the guy back and put him in the same unit as the guy he had a fight with, his rival and the fight ensued. Now, common knowledge is that now there will be tension on both sides (and there was). So, the chain reaction has been set off and we are all on lockdown.
So, here’s my position. History is history, and there’s so many scandals in the prison system and those at the top will always throw their hands up and never admit the truths of provoking violence. While I have grown over the years and don’t advocate violence on any level, I find it amazing how the world see’s violence and pretends it does not exist such as the Jan 6th capital. People deny that happened with video. We just had officers get acquitted in Tacoma after killing a brotha (what’s new) and the judge used all the discretion to bring in evidence that if the roles were reversed wouldn’t allow for me.
The point I’m making to anyone willing to listen is guys like me are trying to do better with our lives. Those Hispanics were trying to coexist and do better with their lives and they bit the bait. Our world is so unkind and how does a bad guy change his image? Can a bad guy’s credibility be believed? Can a bad guy get a fair shake in the real world? These are the challenges we will ultimately face.
On another note, tomorrow my formerly incarcerated homeboy Lester Griffin and I will be opening a Teen Center for kids called Foundation Teen Center in Vancouver Washington. We want to curb violence in our communities and educate the right way. We have dealt with all races in prison, so we know how to deal with our youth and be honest.
